The company developed a system in which disabled drivers’ vehicles will have an electronic tag that is detected in handicapped parking spots when a vehicle pulls in. If a vehicle doesn’t have the tag that sensors the handicapped parking spots parking enforcement personnel will be notified.

The system has not yet been used by any clients, but CPT reports the technology is ready to go and could be in use early this year.

Maintaining a safe facility during the winter is a job itself.

It’s important that facility managers understand the difference between anti-icing and deicing in order to efficiently deal with the ice.

Deicing is the reactive application of industrial snow melter. It eliminates existing snow and ice on driving or walking surfaces. Deicing after snow removal can melt any remaining snow and ice too.

Anti-icing refers to the proactive application of industrial snow melter to driving or walking surfaces before a storm. It helps prevent snow and ice from bonding to the pavement and can easily be cleared. If used effectively, anti-icing can create the safest conditions in the winter and is cost-effective alternative to deicing.

Industrial snow melter products:

Sand

Salt

Sand-salt mix

Calcium Chloride

Magnesium Chloride

Recently, facility managers have been under extreme pressure to work with lower budgets and convince facility executives to pursue necessary sustainability improvements to generate long-term operational savings.

Facility managers need to show them the benefits of treating operational costs more as a revenue piggy bank and not an expense.

Strategically planning a sustainable project will ensure the project pays for itself through the following:

Improved conditions

Lower operational costs

Increased employee retention and satisfaction

Bollard covers are great for any type of application where you have bollards.

Traditionally concrete bollards have been painted to keep them looking nice. But there are a few reasons why this method is not ideal:

Painting the bollards needs to be done on a regular basis.

Paint does not protect the bollards from the elements.

Paint does not protect vehicles, doors, etc. from the abrasive nature of the bollard.

Paint does not help when the concrete starts to fail. It is difficult to keep reflective tape on a painted bollard.

It is difficult to customize a painted bollard.

Painting bollards is a messy job.

Having the necessary parking lot and garage safety products is not only a necessity for protecting your facility, but is also for the safety of pedestrians.

This year the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, created a campaign around improving the safety of pedestrians and preventing traffic crashes – Drive Safely Work Week (DSWW) 2011, “Focus 360°: Getting there safely is everyone’s business.”

Here are some interesting facts pertaining to pedestrian accidents:

On average in 2009, a pedestrian was killed every two hours and inured every nine minutes in traffic crashes.

Hybrid vehicles were found to be twice as likely to be involved in pedestrian crashes at low speeds compared to cars with conventional engines.

One in 6 drivers traveling through an active school zone is distracted by the use of cell phones, electronics, eating/drinking.

As the needs for roofing services increase, contractors and manufacturers are offering more services and warranties.

It is becoming more common for roofing professionals to offer snow removal, ice removal and weight load checks.

Some contractors even offer seasonal services, which entitles a crew to immediately come out to remove snow when it reaches a certain depth on the roof.

This is a cost effective and preventive measure to protect a building. Paying to have snow removed from roof tops definitely beats paying to replace a whole roof.
