  • Maintenance Operations — Sustainability Investment Strategy

Recently, facility managers have been under extreme pressure to work with lower budgets and convince facility executives to pursue necessary sustainability improvements to generate long-term operational savings.

Facility managers need to show them the benefits of treating operational costs more as a revenue piggy bank and not an expense.

Strategically planning a sustainable project will ensure the project pays for itself through the following:

    • Improved conditions
    • Lower operational costs
    • Increased employee retention and satisfaction

  • Bollard Cover Maintenance

Bollard covers are great for any type of application where you have bollards.

Traditionally concrete bollards have been painted to keep them looking nice. But there are a few reasons why this method is not ideal:

    • Painting the bollards needs to be done on a regular basis.
    • Paint does not protect the bollards from the elements.
    • Paint does not protect vehicles, doors, etc. from the abrasive nature of the bollard.
    • Paint does not help when the concrete starts to fail. It is difficult to keep reflective tape on a painted bollard.
    • It is difficult to customize a painted bollard.
    • Painting bollards is a messy job.

  • How Parking Lot Safety Products Enhance the Protection of Pedestrians

Having the necessary parking lot and garage safety products is not only a necessity for protecting your facility, but is also for the safety of pedestrians.

This year the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, created a campaign around improving the safety of pedestrians and preventing traffic crashes - Drive Safely Work Week (DSWW) 2011, “Focus 360°: Getting there safely is everyone’s business.”

Here are some interesting facts pertaining to pedestrian accidents:

    • On average in 2009, a pedestrian was killed every two hours and inured every nine minutes in traffic crashes.
    • Hybrid vehicles were found to be twice as likely to be involved in pedestrian crashes at low speeds compared to cars with conventional engines.
    • One in 6 drivers traveling through an active school zone is distracted by the use of cell phones, electronics, eating/drinking.
